Gordon Square Review, a publication of Literary Cleveland, holds two open readings periods each year:

  • February 1 to April 1. Publication drops May 15. 
  • August 1 to October 1. Publication drops November 15. 

GSR is paused for submissions for issue 15 (August 1 to October 1). If you have submitted to GSR for issue 15, you should have received communication directly from the current editor-in-chief. 

Gordon Square Review pays writers $15 after publication. 

Gordon Square Review considers works that have been previously published but are no longer available online or in-print. If work has been published on a personal blog or website, we request that it be taken down prior to publishing it. 

Gordon Square Review welcomes works of translation; simultaneous submissions; writing from writers from diverse backgrounds, voices, and experiences. 

Gordon Square Review encourages writers to submit poetry, fiction, or brief nonfiction. For genre specific guidelines, please see below. 

  • Poetry Submission. Only include one poem in your submission. We request that no cover letter or author bio be included in your submission
  • Fiction Submission. Only include one story in your submission. The word limit is 7,500 words (if fewer than 7,500 words, that is okay). We request that no cover letter or author bio be included in your submission
  • Brief Nonfiction Submission. Only include one story or essay in your submission. The word limit is 1,000 words (if fewer than 1,000 words, that is okay). We request that no cover letter or author bio be included in your submission.

Literary Cleveland is a nonprofit community of writers committed to bringing people into the world of words by providing educational writing opportunities at all levels, promoting new and existing literature of the highest quality, and advancing Northeast Ohio as a vital center of diverse voices and visions.


Literary Cleveland is accepting applications for a Program Operations Coordinator. Applicants must reside in the Northeast Ohio area. Applicants from historically underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.


Program Operations Coordinator
The Programming Operations Coordinator is responsible for the smooth functioning of ongoing classes, including scheduling, registration, evaluation, and communication with instructors and participants. The position requires strong planning, prioritization, and time management skills as well as customer-service and interpersonal communication skills. The Programming Operations Coordinator will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the Program Director.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Program Director in developing, implementing, and evaluating programming and events to further the mission of the organization
  • Coordinate classes by communicating with program instructors and attendees before, during, and after programs
  • Attend online and in-person classes and events as needed (includes evenings and weekends)
  • Set up classes and events on Literary Cleveland’s website and database
  • Track program registration and attendance and help update data and reports on program attendance and evaluations
  • Support instructor training and curriculum development
  • Participate in staff meetings to plan and manage programs
  • Support day-to-day office activities and communication such as answering phone calls and responding to emails or general inquiries
  • Support marketing and communications such as newsletter, emails, and social media posts

 
Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong scheduling, self-direction, prioritization, and time-management skills
  • Adept with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom web conferencing
  • Experience with database management
  • Customer relations skills
  • Proven writing and interpersonal skills
  • An ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to social justice and equity
  • Marketing, newsletter, social media experience is a plus
  • Previous experience in related fields such as writing, literature, arts or education is a plus
  • Applicants must reside in the Northeast Ohio area

 
Compensation

  • $20-25/hour depending on experience
  • Approximately 20 hours per week on average
  • Flexible work schedule with paid time off
  • A mix of work from home and on-site in-person program coordination with some evenings and weekends required
